LES VISITES
LOCALES

We are very fortunate at Maison Claire Fontaine to be within easy reach of so many interesting and beautiful places. All our visits are carefully planned to ensure maximum learning potential and we have incorporated ‘hands on’ activities to complement our excursions. Vézelay and Avallon are two visits, which are timetabled into your programme and they are less than thirty minutes away. Worksheets are available for both trips and the level is set according to the ability of your students.

Avallon is just 10 minutes from Maison Claire Fontaine. This pretty town, located on a rocky outcrop high above the Cousin Valley, still has its old fortified tower and numerous 15th and 16th century houses. Students often spend an afternoon in Avallon shopping and enjoying un chocolat chaud in one of the many choices of cafés.

Vézelay is 25 minutes from Maison Claire Fontaine and is listed as a World Heritage site by UNESCO. The Basilica St Madeleine that dates from the 12th and 13th century is recognised throughout the world as a chef d'œuvre of Romanesque art. Vézelay, which during the Middle Ages was one of the gathering points for pilgrims, remains a well-preserved medieval village. Our visit to Vézelay is followed by a stone sculpture workshop at Maison Claire Fontaine.
