CLAIRE FONTAINE

Welcome to Maison Claire Fontaine! A residential language centre in Burgundy, for schools that want to give their students the opportunity to experience the real France. We are just two hours from Paris, situated in the rural village of Méluzien next to the historical town of Avallon. Maison Claire Fontaine was once a restaurant/hotel; today it accommodates school parties of up to sixty pupils, plus accompanying staff, in stylish, comfortable rooms. Students sleep in dormitories each with shower rooms. Staff rooms are situated next to the dormitories to guarantee a safe and secure environment. The centre, which caters for pupils from eight to sixteen years old, has classrooms, a games room/common room, sculpture garden with patio, playing field, volleyball court, boules pitch and a secure parking area for vehicles.

 

At Maison Claire Fontaine we have designed a French course, which is creative, interactive and fun. It has been carefully designed to encourage and stimulate students to learn more about the language and culture of France. We offer a range of cross-curricular activities, which are linked to the French language.

These include -

  • French lessons which involve visiting an outdoor market, a local school and the local town of Avallon.
  • Local excursions.
  • Sporting activities such as cycling, kayaking, archery, swimming and a language and cultural treasure hunt.
  • Art workshops, which include stone carving, mosaic, ceramic painting and textile work.

 
We believe we are offering something unique and special. The enthusiasm that we carry for our programme can only be passed on to students and teachers who visit Maison Claire Fontaine. Students return home motivated and inspired with a positive attitude towards learning French and an appreciation of the benefits and usefulness of speaking French. The value of learning about French culture in this way, combined with the educational benefits of a residential stay, and the excitement of foreign travel, contribute to a thoroughly enjoyable experience. SAFETY

We maintain the highest standards of safety at all times. We have first aiders on site and the hospital and dentist are just ten minutes away should the need arise. Our staff are qualified and experienced in their area of work and offer a friendly, enthusiastic approach whilst creating a safe, pleasant, learning environment. From our daily cleaner through to the director, all staff have been rigorously checked to ensure that your students have the very best care. During off-site activities group numbers are in the ratio of 1-10 to ensure that all activities operate within a professional framework. Maison Claire Fontaine and our staff are fully insured.

Our French teachers are qualified, native French speakers. Professional, qualified instructors run all activities and we provide all the specialist equipment needed for the activities.

 

MEAL TIMES

Staff of Maison Claire Fontaine dine with all visiting groups. This is an occasion when pupils can reflect on their busy day and discuss their experiences with friends and staff. Vegetarian meals are provided when requested and our chef ensures that no one leaves the dining room hungry. There is also the opportunity to eat at a local French restaurant, an experience all students enjoy!

 

CREDENTIALS

We are licensed by La Commission de Sécurité ( health and safety), Les Services Vétérinaires ( hygiène alimentaire) and La DDASS (Direction Départementale des Affaires Sanitaires et Sociales). We work in partnership with the association CLAS ( Culture-Loisirs-Animation-Sport) of Avallon.
